It is surely the ultimate in love stories, and its legacy survives as one of the world’s seven wonders. Out of his passion for his wife, the Emperor Shah Jahan built a mausoleum, where they lie side by side to this day. We know it as the Taj Mahal, the most inspiring of
innumerable buildings that brought architectural distinction to Asia. Once seen, the edifice is seared in the memory for ever.

And there is no better view of it than from across the Yamuna River, were it is framed by groves of jasmine and rose – a sight that has inspired our fragrance. Like other prodigious leaders, Shah Jahan had absorbed many cultures, and knew many scents. Incense burned in his court at Agra, the aromas redolent of the oud, sandalwood, exotic flowers and spice. Passion and splendor abound in his story, and we conjure them up in tribute here.
